Trailer Tracking and Monitoring Benefits - Identify areas of under utilisation of trailers, identify idle time, reduce fleet size
- Reduce the time and effort retrieving stolen trailers
- Automated and Accurate Inventory Reporting, reduced costs
- Load planning
- Reduction in consignment insurance
- Security in transit
- Evidence of external tampering
- Evidence of first class quality control procedures
The Problem Trailers disconnected from tractor units can often stay idle for long periods of time, resulting in underutilisation or theft. Disconnected trailers have no access to a power source and therefore cannot be located or tracked using conventional tracking devices; fleets may have an excess of 30-50% more trailers than required and require labour intensive inventory reporting procedures. In addition to trailer theft, goods in transit can also be stolen. The Solution - Daily Position Reporting/Condition Alert The system is mounted on the trailer in a secure location, typically within 15 minutes, and is switched on by removing the key fob, battery is supplied internally in the unit. The unit is configured to report position at pre set intervals and has the ability to be remotely polled to report current position. Optional door, curtain side, temperature and motion sensors allow remote condition monitoring. Depending upon configuration, typical operation period is up to 3 years before the battery pack needs replacement. The user logs on to the Internet web site to set the product to a specified number of locations per day at specified times, e.g. 2 per day, at 7am and 7pm. Automatic reporting will provide daily inventory control, weekly utilisation reports, and the ability for accurate daily load planning. If business circumstances change the user has the ability to remotely configure the unit to these new circumstances. Examples could include increasing the number of locations, e.g. 12 per day or to determine the current location in which case a position on request command is sent via the Internet web site and within a user defined period, e.g. 15 minutes, the location is known. Electronic door or curtain side seals can communicate via the product to advise when they are broken. If any tampering occurs with the seal it will automatically trigger the device and report location information to the user's mobile phone or via email to the user's desk. If detailed mapping information is required, the user logs on to the secure Internet web site and can see the position on a detailed map. Additionally users have the ability to provide application specific maps which can be made available through the web site. On board temperature monitoring sensors allow the user to be alerted automatically by text or email when pre-set limits are violated. The user has the ability to remotely change the pre-set limits as business operating conditions change.
