The Problem Cargos easily affected by extremes of temperature, e.g. fine wines, perishable foods may be fitted with a recording device to monitor temperature during transit. If the goods arrive in a questionable condition, then a pass or fail certificate indicating if the goods were shipped within acceptable temperature variations can be provided. However the customer or the shipper must wait until the goods are delivered, at which point the goods may be ruined, before this information is available.
The Solution - Condition/Position on Demand or Alert The product is fitted with a calibrated temperature sensor, is mounted on the container in a secure location. The unit can, if required, be fitted into a fixture specified and approved by the freight operator. Alternatively, if temperature inside the container is already monitored, this signal can be fed in to the system. The unit is switched on by removing the key fob, battery is supplied internally in the unit.
The shipper or the customer logs on to the Internet web site and sets the lower and upper temperature limits acceptable to the goods in transit. During shipment the shipper or user can check the condition and location by interrogating the Asset Alert from the web site. Condition and Location are both reported. Alternatively the device can be set to alert mode and it will automatically trigger the device when the temperature limits are violated and report condition and location information to the user's mobile phone or via email to the user's desk. |
