1. How long has OxLoc Ltd been about?

OxLoc Ltd has been operating as a commercial company since December 2000. As a result of demonstrating the possibility of combining GPS and GSM technologies to construct an ultra-lightweight battery device capable of recording positional data and subsequently downloading to remote computer units, Isis Innovation Ltd, the technology transfer company of the University of Oxford spun out OxLoc Ltd on the 12th December 2000.

2. Where are the geographical areas of operation?

The system is operational in all the regions of the world that support 850, 900, 1800 & 1900 MHz frequency bands (see www.gsmworld.com for further details). True global operation is possible by operating and cross networking on all major GSM networks.

3. What differentiates OxLoc from its competitors?

OxLoc achieves its competitive advantage by combining a range of customer benefits - miniature product with self-contained power source typically operating for 2 - 4 years; rapid and simple installation, typically 15 minutes or less; robust and rugged enclosure designed to operate in external environments, IP67 rating; autonomy and ability to control the unit remotely over the mobile network; a range of other data inputs from sensors and RFID tags combine to offer a location PLUS service, providing Location Based information Services. New state of the art technology developments are continuously integrated in to our products to maintain our competitive position.

4. What are your target markets?

Target markets include Logistics, Freight, Inventory Control, Homeland Security, Trailers, Containers, Plant Equipment and Rail Freight. The potential applications for the OxLoc product are extensive. In addition to the "Tracking" related data inputs of position, velocity, speed and direction, the technology that OxLoc has developed can be used for other data inputs such as diagnostic and environmental.

5. Will I need to buy additional hardware or software to make the system work?

The OxLoc hardware is supplied with GSM SIM card and battery source and is operational straight out of the box. Data access is through a secure Internet web site with user name and password provided by OxLoc.

6. How often can I view the data?

The data can be viewed at anytime from any Internet access point.

7. What is the size and weight of the device?

OxLoc will customize and minimize size and weight for each application. The OxLoc80AL asset alert is 177 x 105 x 41mm and weighs 490g.

8. What power source is required?

The OxLoc products require no additional power source and are self powered by lithium primary cell batteries. The units are delivered with a battery source and can be easily replaced by the user.

9. How long will the battery last?

Typical operation of 4 positions per day would last for 3 years. The life of the battery will depend upon the configuration chosen by the user. A low battery signal and alert to the user advises when the battery source will need changing.

10. How many location fixes can be supported on one device?

The number of location fixes must be decided in conjunction with the permissible size and weight of the battery required for each application. Typical applications range from 2,000 to 20,000.

11. How often is the data recorded, transmitted and refreshed?

This is configured by the user and can be changed remotely via the Internet web site. Position can be recorded at intervals from 5 minutes to 24 hours. Data can be transmitted every time data is recorded or bundled together, up to 7 sets of data per transmission. Data is instantly available each time the device transmits back to the server, as determined by the user.

12. How will OxLoc solution evolve?

OxLoc Ltd see an opportunity for niche market solutions and applications within the explosive growth of the Location Based information Services Market. In this market there will be several technology solutions dependent upon application, and no single technology will be able to provide the total solution. The OxLoc product is suited to a large number of applications due to the modularity and ease of applying the same concept for each of the market sectors along with the web based data presentation and access. OxLoc are already integrating a range of sensors and ultra long range active RFID technology.
